Ryan E. Austin MD, FRCSC

Dr. Ryan Austin joined The Plastic Surgery Clinic in 2017 and has been a part of the Division of Plastic Surgery at St. Joseph’s Health Centre since 2020. With a wealth of expertise, Dr. Austin is renowned for his exceptional outcomes in a range of specialties, including breast surgery, abdominoplasty / body contouring after weight loss, labiaplasty and vaginal rejuvenation, and hand surgery.
A native of Toronto, Dr. Austin earned a BSc with a specialization in Life Sciences from Queen’s University on a full scholarship, maintaining a place on the Dean’s Honour List with Distinction. He was also an active member of the varsity golf team and volunteered with the Queen’s Medical Outreach program, delivering health education to at-risk students in Kenya.
Following his undergraduate studies, Dr. Austin obtained his MD from the University of Toronto, garnering several prestigious awards for academic excellence and extracurricular involvement. He completed his residency training at the esteemed Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Toronto, followed by a clinical fellowship in Hand Surgery at The Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center / Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Austin is a respected figure in the field of plastic and aesthetic surgery research, with numerous publications in esteemed journals and frequent presentations at national and international conferences. He serves as Co-Chair of the Toronto Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Symposium and holds leadership roles in numerous medical associations.
In 2015, Dr. Austin was selected to join the Editorial Board of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal as one of five Next Generation Editors, and in 2020 he was selected to Lead the Next Generation Editors section, an eminent role that he continues to hold today. Dr. Austin works as a Contributing Editor for the Aesthetic Breast Surgery Section of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum and serves on numerous committees with The Aesthetic Society and the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Since 2020, Dr. Austin has also served as Chair of the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) Section on Plastic Surgery, representing and advocating for plastic surgeons across the province of Ontario.
Recognized for his dedication to patient care and education, Dr. Austin has received numerous awards throughout his career, including the prestigious Arnis Freiberg Faculty Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Toronto Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and maintains active memberships in leading medical and scientific organizations. Dr. Austin’s commitment to advancing the field of plastic surgery is unparalleled, making him a trusted authority in his field.
Brett Beber MD, FRCSC

Dr. Brett Beber attended medical school at the University of Toronto, graduating with honours in 1999. He then went on to complete a 5 year residency in Plastic Surgery at the University of Toronto. During this time, he earned numerous awards including the Sopman Humanitarian Award, the A. W. Harrison Award for excellence in teaching, and the Tau Omicron Phi Chi Award for clinical research.
Dr. Beber received his certification as a specialist in Plastic Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2004.
At the completion of his training Dr. Beber was invited to join the staff of both Women’s College Hospital and The Toronto East Health Network. His clinical interests include aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast, body, and face.
Dr. Beber holds the position of Lecturer in the Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery and is actively involved in teaching residents and medical students.

Jamil Ahmad MD, FRCSC

Dr. Jamil Ahmad joined The Plastic Surgery Clinic in 2010. He is the Director of Research and Education at the Clinic. Dr. Ahmad is known for his natural results after cosmetic surgery and is sought after for his expertise in rhinoplasty, facial rejuvenation procedures, breast surgery, abdominoplasty, body contouring after weight loss, liposuction, fat transfer, female cosmetic genital surgery, and revisional aesthetic surgery. Dr. Ahmad is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and enjoys privileges at the University Health Network and Mount Sinai Hospital.
Dr. Ahmad is the only plastic surgeon in Canada to complete his plastic surgery residency training at the world renowned, Department of Plastic Surgery, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. In addition, he completed a fellowship in breast reconstruction at the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Toronto.
During his time in medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dr. Ahmad received all three awards in anatomy: the Evatt Memorial Medal, the Stoney Memorial Medal, and the Barker Dissection Prize. Additionally, he won the Silver Medal and First Prize in Physiology during medical school. As a plastic surgery resident at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, he was presented the Resident Excellence in Research Award. Additionally, Dr. Ahmad was also awarded the Gaspar Anastasi award from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery for research in facial anatomy and facelift surgery.
As an active participant in current research and education, Dr. Ahmad is consistently asked to present at national and international plastic surgery meetings, including the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (CSAPS), the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons (CSPS), and the Rhinoplasty Society. He has also been an invited lecturer in many countries around the world including the United States, Brazil, Colombia, Belgium, Norway, Kuwait, Turkey, and Iran. He has been invited as a Visiting Professor by many Universities including the Stanford University, Yale University, Washington University in St. Louis, the University of Kansas, the University of Massachusetts, the University of Miami, the University of Nevada, the University of Utah, and the University of Manitoba. He is the Course Director of the Annual University of Toronto Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Symposium. In addition, he serves as Anatomy Lab Director and faculty at the prestigious Annual Dallas Cosmetic Medicine and Surgery, and Dallas Rhinoplasty Meetings.
In 2015, Dr. Ahmad was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Aesthetic Society, the largest professional society for board certified plastic surgeons specializing in aesthetic plastic surgery. In over 50 years, he is only the second Canadian plastic surgeon to ever be appointed to the Aesthetic Society Board of Directors. He also serves as the Chair of the Aesthetic Meeting Program Committee and Co-Chair of Premier Global Hot Topics where the latest surgical techniques and technology in aesthetic plastic surgery are introduced. He has received the Best Panel Moderator Award by the Aesthetic Society. He has also been an Aesthetic Society Travelling Professor which is one of the most prestigious appointments made by the Aesthetic Society.
Dr. Ahmad is a recognized authority on rhinoplasty and has been an active member of the Rhinoplasty Society, a group that consists of surgeons throughout the world who specialize in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the nose. In 2017, he became the first Canadian appointed to the Board of Directors of the Rhinoplasty Society. Additionally, Dr. Ahmad has served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery since 2019.
Dr. Ahmad has authored more than 120 articles and chapters in plastic surgery, including articles in Aesthetic Surgery Journal, Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery. He is on the Editorial Board for Aesthetic Surgery Journal and he is the My Way section editor for Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum. He has published significant work on rhinoplasty, facial rejuvenation, breast augmentation, breast reduction, abdominoplasty, liposuction, female cosmetic genital surgery, and patient safety during plastic surgery. In recent years, he has co-authored both Dallas Rhinoplasty: Nasal Surgery by the Masters, 3rd Edition and Secondary Rhinoplasty by the Global Masters. These medical textbooks are considered to be the definitive treatises on rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty surgery.
Dr. Ahmad is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery. He is actively involved in teaching plastic surgery residents and fellows and is the Director of the University of Toronto-Resident Aesthetic Surgery Clinic. He was a member of the University of Toronto’s first Canadian hand transplant team that took place at University Health Network in 2016. He has been recognized by the Division for his research and was awarded the William K. Lindsay Faculty Research Mentor Award. In 2016, he was presented with the prestigious Chair’s Award for making significant contributions to the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Toronto.
Mitchell H. Brown MD, MEd, FRCSC

Mitchell H. Brown, MD, is a Full Professor in the Department of Surgery and past Program Director of the plastic surgery training program in the Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery at The University of Toronto. Dr. Brown’s plastic surgery practice is focused primarily on reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgery, facial surgery and body contouring.
Dr. Brown earned his medical degree at the University Of Western Ontario Faculty Of Medicine in London, Ontario. He completed his residency in plastic surgery at the University of Toronto and then received a Master’s Degree in Education.
Dr. Brown has lectured extensively in the areas of reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgery with a strong focus on breast implants. He is the Founder of Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day, an advocacy initiative to raise awareness for options in breast reconstruction. Dr. Brown is the Chair of the Toronto Breast Surgery Symposium, Canada’s largest annual meeting focused on plastic surgery of the breast. He is a member of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Canadian Society for Aesthetic (Cosmetic) Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, The American Association of Plastic Surgeons, the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

A native of California, Dr. Benjamin (Ben) Talei graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a degree in Physiological Sciences receiving both College and Departmental Honors. While studying at the University of Menedez Pelayo in Spain, Dr. Talei worked for the Sisterhood of Blood Donors and the Red Cross promoting blood donations in Andalucia, Spain.
He then received his Medical Degree at one of the nation’s top medical schools-University of California, San Diego School of Medicine (UCSD). Dr. Talei was nominated to the Gold Humanism Honor Society after having donated immense amounts of time and energy to the free clinic in San Diego along with other charitable foundations.
Dr. Talei then completed his residency training in Head & Neck Surgery at Columbia University and Cornell University Medical Centers, New York Presbyterian Hospital. There he worked with the Greats of Facial Plastic Surgery included his primary mentor Dr. Steven Pearlman. He then served as Chief in his residency at Columbia and Cornell and served as a fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center also in New York City.
Following his residency training, Dr. Talei became one of the only surgeons in the country to complete two separate fellowships in Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. First he completed one of the most revered and prestigious fellowships in the country at the New York Center for Facial Plastic & Laser Surgery. Simultaneously he offered his skills and training while serving as voluntary staff and teacher for the Resident Head & Neck Surgeons of the Albert Einstein School of Medicine. Dr. Talei then furthered his training with Dr. Milton Waner at the Vascular Birthmark Institute of New York, a part of Lenox Hill and Manhattan Ear, Eyes and Throat Hospitals. There he treated the most rare and devastating Vascular Birthmarks & Congenital Anomalies while refining his techniques in Pediatric Facial Plastic Surgery.
Integrated fully into the Beverly Hills community, Dr. Talei is a member of the Beverly Hills Health & Wellness Committee. He is also on staff at UCLA Ronald Regan Medical Center, Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Talei is the Advisory Chair for the Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA).
