Dr. Ryan Austin joined The Plastic Surgery Clinic in 2017 and has been a part of the Division of Plastic Surgery at St. Joseph’s Health Centre since 2020. With a wealth of expertise, Dr. Austin is renowned for his exceptional outcomes in a range of specialties, including breast surgery, abdominoplasty / body contouring after weight loss, labiaplasty and vaginal rejuvenation, and hand surgery.
A native of Toronto, Dr. Austin earned a BSc with a specialization in Life Sciences from Queen’s University on a full scholarship, maintaining a place on the Dean’s Honour List with Distinction. He was also an active member of the varsity golf team and volunteered with the Queen’s Medical Outreach program, delivering health education to at-risk students in Kenya.
Following his undergraduate studies, Dr. Austin obtained his MD from the University of Toronto, garnering several prestigious awards for academic excellence and extracurricular involvement. He completed his residency training at the esteemed Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Toronto, followed by a clinical fellowship in Hand Surgery at The Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center / Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Austin is a respected figure in the field of plastic and aesthetic surgery research, with numerous publications in esteemed journals and frequent presentations at national and international conferences. He serves as Co-Chair of the Toronto Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Symposium and holds leadership roles in numerous medical associations.
In 2015, Dr. Austin was selected to join the Editorial Board of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal as one of five Next Generation Editors, and in 2020 he was selected to Lead the Next Generation Editors section, an eminent role that he continues to hold today. Dr. Austin works as a Contributing Editor for the Aesthetic Breast Surgery Section of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum and serves on numerous committees with The Aesthetic Society and the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Since 2020, Dr. Austin has also served as Chair of the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) Section on Plastic Surgery, representing and advocating for plastic surgeons across the province of Ontario.
Recognized for his dedication to patient care and education, Dr. Austin has received numerous awards throughout his career, including the prestigious Arnis Freiberg Faculty Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Toronto Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and maintains active memberships in leading medical and scientific organizations. Dr. Brett Beber attended medical school at the University of Toronto, graduating with honours in 1999. He then went on to complete a 5 year residency in Plastic Surgery at the University of Toronto. During this time, he earned numerous awards including the Sopman Humanitarian Award, the A. W. Harrison Award for excellence in teaching, and the Tau Omicron Phi Chi Award for clinical research.
Dr. Beber received his certification as a specialist in Plastic Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2004.
At the completion of his training Dr. Beber was invited to join the staff of both Women’s College Hospital and The Toronto East Health Network. His clinical interests include aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast, body, and face.
Dr. Beber holds the position of Lecturer in the Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery and is actively involved in teaching residents and medical students.

Jamil Ahmad MD, FRCSC

Dr. Jamil Ahmad joined The Plastic Surgery Clinic in 2010. He is the Director of Research and Education at the Clinic. Dr. Ahmad is known for his natural results after cosmetic surgery and is sought after for his expertise in rhinoplasty, facial rejuvenation procedures, breast surgery, abdominoplasty, body contouring after weight loss, liposuction, fat transfer, female cosmetic genital surgery, and revisional aesthetic surgery. Dr. Ahmad is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and enjoys privileges at the University Health Network and Mount Sinai Hospital.
Dr. Ahmad is the only plastic surgeon in Canada to complete his plastic surgery residency training at the world renowned, Department of Plastic Surgery, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. In addition, he completed a fellowship in breast reconstruction at the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Toronto.
During his time in medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dr. Ahmad received all three awards in anatomy: the Evatt Memorial Medal, the Stoney Memorial Medal, and the Barker Dissection Prize. Additionally, he won the Silver Medal and First Prize in Physiology during medical school. As a plastic surgery resident at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, he was presented the Resident Excellence in Research Award. Additionally, Dr. Ahmad was also awarded the Gaspar Anastasi award from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery for research in facial anatomy and facelift surgery.
As an active participant in current research and education, Dr. Ahmad is consistently asked to present at national and international plastic surgery meetings, including the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (CSAPS), the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons (CSPS), and the Rhinoplasty Society. He has also been an invited lecturer in many countries around the world including the United States, Brazil, Colombia, Belgium, Norway, Kuwait, Turkey, and Iran. He has been invited as a Visiting Professor by many Universities including the Stanford University, Yale University, Washington University in St. Louis, the University of Kansas, the University of Massachusetts, the University of Miami, the University of Nevada, the University of Utah, and the University of Manitoba. He is the Course Director of the Annual University of Toronto Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Symposium. In addition, he serves as Anatomy Lab Director and faculty at the prestigious Annual Dallas Cosmetic Medicine and Surgery, and Dallas Rhinoplasty Meetings.
In 2015, Dr. Ahmad was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Aesthetic Society, the largest professional society for board certified plastic surgeons specializing in aesthetic plastic surgery. In over 50 years, he is only the second Canadian plastic surgeon to ever be appointed to the Aesthetic Society Board of Directors. He also serves as the Chair of the Aesthetic Meeting Program Committee and Co-Chair of Premier Global Hot Topics where the latest surgical techniques and technology in aesthetic plastic surgery are introduced. He has received the Best Panel Moderator Award by the Aesthetic Society. He has also been an Aesthetic Society Travelling Professor which is one of the most prestigious appointments made by the Aesthetic Society.
Dr. Ahmad is a recognized authority on rhinoplasty and has been an active member of the Rhinoplasty Society, a group that consists of surgeons throughout the world who specialize in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the nose. In 2017, he became the first Canadian appointed to the Board of Directors of the Rhinoplasty Society. Additionally, Dr. Ahmad has served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery since 2019.
Dr. Ahmad has authored more than 120 articles and chapters in plastic surgery, including articles in Aesthetic Surgery Journal, Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery. He is on the Editorial Board for Aesthetic Surgery Journal and he is the My Way section editor for Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum. He has published significant work on rhinoplasty, facial rejuvenation, breast augmentation, breast reduction, abdominoplasty, liposuction, female cosmetic genital surgery, and patient safety during plastic surgery. In recent years, he has co-authored both Dallas Rhinoplasty: Nasal Surgery by the Masters, 3rd Edition and Secondary Rhinoplasty by the Global Masters. These medical textbooks are considered to be the definitive treatises on rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty surgery.
Dr. Ahmad is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery. He is actively involved in teaching plastic surgery residents and fellows and is the Director of the University of Toronto-Resident Aesthetic Surgery Clinic. He was a member of the University of Toronto’s first Canadian hand transplant team that took place at University Health Network in 2016. He has been recognized by the Division for his research and was awarded the William K. Lindsay Faculty Research Mentor Award. In 2016, he was presented with the prestigious Chair’s Award for making significant contributions to the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Toronto.

Mitchell H. Brown, MD, is a Full Professor in the Department of Surgery and past Program Director of the plastic surgery training program in the Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery at The University of Toronto. Dr. Brown’s plastic surgery practice is focused primarily on reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgery, facial surgery and body contouring.
Dr. Brown earned his medical degree at the University Of Western Ontario Faculty Of Medicine in London, Ontario. He completed his residency in plastic surgery at the University of Toronto and then received a Master’s Degree in Education.
Dr. Brown has lectured extensively in the areas of reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgery with a strong focus on breast implants. He is the Founder of Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day, an advocacy initiative to raise awareness for options in breast reconstruction. Dr. Brown is the Chair of the Toronto Breast Surgery Symposium, Canada’s largest annual meeting focused on plastic surgery of the breast. He is a member of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Canadian Society for Aesthetic (Cosmetic) Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, The American Association of Plastic Surgeons, the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Amy K. Alderman MD MPH FACS

Dr. Alderman is a board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in health services research through the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program. She previously served on the faculty at the University of Michigan and is now in private practice in Atlanta.
Dr. Alderman holds several leadership roles, including Vice-Chair of the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), Chair of the ABPS Ethics Committee, Co-Chair of the Atlanta Breast Symposium, and Co-Chair of the National Breast Implant Registry. Her clinical expertise focuses on cosmetic breast and body surgery.

Hana Farhang Khoee MD MSc FRCSC

Dr Hana Farhang Khoee is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada with experience in both Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. A graduate of the University of Toronto’s faculty of medicine, Dr. Farhang has worked in hospitals and private clinics throughout Ontario and the US. She completed her residency in Plastic Surgery at McMaster University, followed by a fellowship in Reconstructive Microsurgery at the world-renowned Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. There she was mentored by the world leaders in Plastic Surgery and managed complex cases related to breast, head and neck, extremity, and perineal cancer reconstruction.
Upon her return to Canada, she began working as a Trauma Surgeon at St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, dealing with complicated traumatic injuries related to craniofacial skeleton, as well as upper and lower extremity limb trauma. She also worked at the McLean Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, where she further advanced her aesthetic surgical experience.
In the summer of 2017, Dr. Farhang was recruited to Windsor, Ontario to develop a Breast Reconstruction Program – a service the city had been without for over 10 years. The development of the program has been pivotal for women’s health and has been profiled on national news and local television and radio stations. For this work, Dr. Farhang received the 2018 Erie St. Clair Regional Cancer Program Summit award, which recognizes those who have substantially contributed to improving the quality of life of cancer patients. Dr Farhang no longer works at the Windsor Regional Hospital, and she cannot provide cancer reconstruction.
Dr. Farhang is a devoted scholar and active researcher, publishing 20 peer reviewed journal publications. She is committed to maintaining the highest standards of practice and is Board Certified to practice Plastic Surgery in both Canada and the United States.
Dr. Farhang currently practices Cosmetic Surgery in London, Ontario at the Advanced Surgical Operatory . Dr. Hustak was born on an Apache Indian Reservation in Whiteriver, Arizona. Her mother worked as a surgical first hand assistant for an aesthetic plastic surgeon, and Dr. Hustak, at age 14, eagerly watched her first surgery. This sparked her passion for the field.
Dr.Hustak’s training started in Ohio where she lived for 8 years. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with Distinction in Medical Technology from The Ohio State University in 2004. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 2008, Dr. Hustak married her best friend and classmate, Dr. Erik Hustak, and settled in Texas.
For 6 years, Dr. Hustak excelled in a highly competitive integrated plastic surgery program at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas. While there, she was awarded Top Plastic Surgery Resident, nominated for Outstanding Annual UTMB resident, won the Golden Scalpel Award for Surgical Excellence, and won the first ever Outstanding Resident Leadership Award. Upon graduation, she was recruited to join the Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery (ACPS).
Dr. Hustak’s commitment to excellence in the field of plastic surgery is evident. She is a local and national authority on female genital rejuvenation and “complete” mommy makeovers, and is a sought after speaker for local and national conferences. She has developed several innovative techniques in the field and continues to share her techniques, along with her ACPS colleagues, on ways in which to make procedures better and safer for patients. She is a clinical professor in plastic surgery and trains residents and fellows from several local academic medical centers in the Houston area.
Dr. Hustak is a loving wife and mother. Her husband is an academic anesthesiologist, specializing in cancer pain management. Together they have three beautiful children that enrich their lives daily. Galen Perdikis MD

Galen Perdikis, M.D., is currently the G. Patrick Maxwell MD Endowed Chair and Professor of Plastic Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He previously was Chair of Plastic Surgery and Medical Director for Education at Mayo Clinic Florida. He completed both plastic surgery and general surgery training, and his research and clinical interests are focused on breast reconstruction, microsurgical options, and aesthetic surgery, particularly safety. He is an invited speaker both domestically and internationally, has won awards and developed and published written guidelines on breast reconstruction and reduction mammaplasty for ASPS. Dr. Perdikis holds many professional memberships and has served in many leadership roles around organized plastic surgery. He currently serves as a Director on the ABPS Board.
Dr. Perdikis has also had a long career in educating and organized education. He is passionate about change in this arena, particularly competency. He is a strong advocate for the specialty of plastic surgery having served on the Board of Governors for PlastiPAC.

A native of California, Dr. Benjamin (Ben) Talei graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a degree in Physiological Sciences receiving both College and Departmental Honors. While studying at the University of Menedez Pelayo in Spain, Dr. Talei worked for the Sisterhood of Blood Donors and the Red Cross promoting blood donations in Andalucia, Spain.
He then received his Medical Degree at one of the nation’s top medical schools-University of California, San Diego School of Medicine (UCSD). Dr. Talei was nominated to the Gold Humanism Honor Society after having donated immense amounts of time and energy to the free clinic in San Diego along with other charitable foundations.
Dr. Talei then completed his residency training in Head & Neck Surgery at Columbia University and Cornell University Medical Centers, New York Presbyterian Hospital. There he worked with the Greats of Facial Plastic Surgery included his primary mentor Dr. Steven Pearlman. He then served as Chief in his residency at Columbia and Cornell and served as a fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center also in New York City.
Following his residency training, Dr. Talei became one of the only surgeons in the country to complete two separate fellowships in Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. First he completed one of the most revered and prestigious fellowships in the country at the New York Center for Facial Plastic & Laser Surgery. Simultaneously he offered his skills and training while serving as voluntary staff and teacher for the Resident Head & Neck Surgeons of the Albert Einstein School of Medicine. Dr. Talei then furthered his training with Dr. Milton Waner at the Vascular Birthmark Institute of New York, a part of Lenox Hill and Manhattan Ear, Eyes and Throat Hospitals. There he treated the most rare and devastating Vascular Birthmarks & Congenital Anomalies while refining his techniques in Pediatric Facial Plastic Surgery.
Integrated fully into the Beverly Hills community, Dr. Talei is a member of the Beverly Hills Health & Wellness Committee. He is also on staff at UCLA Ronald Regan Medical Center, Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Talei is the Advisory Chair for the Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA).

Dr. Ammara Ghumman is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon specializing in breast reconstruction. She graduated from the Schulich School of Medicine at Western University and completed her residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Ottawa. She completed two fellowships in Miami (hand, nerve and wrist surgery) and in Toronto at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (breast and oncologic reconstruction), as well as a Masters of Science in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Toronto. She is a specialist in breast reconstruction and is the current Breast Reconstruction Lead at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. Dr. Ghumman is joining the plastic surgery team at Women’s College Hospital with a special interest in breast reconstruction, breast surgery, and supporting the Transition Related Surgery program.

Dr. Hofer obtained his medical degree from the University of Amsterdam in 1992. He then completed his PhD in the Department of Surgical Research, Academic Medical Center, Amsterdam. He obtained his board certification in Plastic Surgery from the Netherlands in 2000 and became the first Plastic Surgeon to be awarded the highly prestigious Dutch Cancer Society clinical fellowship, which funded his one-year Microsurgery Research fellowship at the Bernard O’Brien Institute of Microsurgery at the University of Melbourne in Australia. Dr. Hofer was a Full Professor in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam and the Head of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgical Oncology from 2001 to 2007.
Dr. Hofer had been serving as the Division Head of Plastic Surgery at University Health Network and Mount Sinai Health System from 2007 to 2022. He holds the Wharton Chair in Reconstructive Surgery and was the recipient of the Munk Reconstructive Surgery Innovation Fund to develop the Augmented Reality in Surgery Lab in collaboration with TECHNA at UHN. He is the immediate previous Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (JPRAS).
Dr. Hofer is internationally recognized for his outstanding contributions in the areas of clinical service, education, and research. His clinical practice is focused on oncologic reconstructive (micro)surgery with an emphasis on breast reconstruction, sarcoma and head & neck reconstruction. He has a special interest in postbariatric body contouring surgery.

Upon his return to Toronto, Dr. Jalil joined North York General Hospital, where he specializes in the reconstruction of oncological defects and breast reconstruction. In addition to his hospital practice, he maintains an aesthetic surgery clinic in downtown Toronto. Dr. Jalil is also actively involved in academic pursuits, contributing to research and teaching at the University of Toronto.

Julie Khanna MD FRCSC
Dr. Julie Khanna is a Plastic Surgeon and the co-founder of The Institute of Cosmetic and Laser Surgery.
(ICLS) one of Canada’s leading aesthetic practices. At ICLS, Dr. Khanna runs a private surgical facility with
two general anesthetic operating rooms and two overnight suites.
Dr. Khanna has been certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for over 29 years and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgeons. She specializes in aesthetic surgery, focusing on Breast, Body and Facial procedures.
Dr. Khanna completed her medical training at the University of Ottawa, a microsurgery fellowship at
McMaster University and an aesthetic fellowship under Dr. Lloyd Carlsen in Toronto. Living by the
philosophy “always teaching, always learning,” Dr. Khanna is an active member of the professional
community, serving as a president of The Canadian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (CSAPS) and is
currently working as the ethics chair of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS). She is
a longstanding member of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, Canadian Society of Aesthetic Plastic

She is a renowned international speaker in her field, most recently sharing her insights at the
Advanced Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Workshop in Melbourne, Australia (February 2024), CSAPS 50th
Anniversary Annual Meeting in Vancouver, Canada (October 2023) and The Aesthetic Meeting in Miami,
United States (April 2023), where she was awarded the Scott Spear certificate for Best Breast Presentation.
Dr. Khanna takes a keen interest in supporting the next generation of emerging surgeons and works as a
teaching clinical professor at both McMaster University and the University of Toronto for plastic surgery
residents and fellows.
In addition, Dr. Khanna is involved in the robust clinical trials department at ICLS, continually investing in
cutting-edge research. Most recently, she co-authored a contributing chapter titled “Enhanced Liposuction
of the Arms” on arm liposuction techniques in “Enhanced Liposuction” by Diane Duncan.

Dr. Lipa practices at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, with a clinical focus on reconstruction for patients with breast cancer within the Louise Temerty Breast Cancer Centre. Her academic role is that of surgeon-investigator, and she is appointed as an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery. Her current scholarly work focuses on education for delivery of high quality, equitable care.
Dr. Lipa serves as a Senior Examiner and is the past Chair of The American Board of Plastic Surgery, and has served in multiple leadership roles, including President, of the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery.

Dr. Frank Lista is the Medical Director and founder of the Plastic Surgery Clinic. He is a certified specialist in plastic surgery by the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and one of only a few Canadian plastic surgeons to be board certified in the United States as a diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Lista completed his plastic surgery residency and fellowship at the University of Toronto. He has been in practice for over 30 years. Dr. Lista is considered one of the world’s foremost experts in aesthetic breast surgery.

Dr. Glykeria Martou is a member of the Plastic Surgery division at KHSC. She completed her plastic surgery training and fellowship in Microsurgical Reconstruction at the University of Toronto. Her clinical practice focuses on the reconstruction of traumatic and oncologic ablative defects with a primary interest in breast reconstruction. Her research interests focus on the evaluation of quality-of-life following breast reconstruction and promotion of public awareness and patient education about breast reconstruction.

Dr McArdle studied Medicine at University College Dublin, Ireland graduating in 2009. He completed his plastic surgery residency in Ireland, and was awarded Fellowships by examination from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
He completed a two year Postdoctoral Research fellowship at Stanford University. He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, and authored 8 book chapters. He was awarded a Doctoral degree in Research from University College Dublin.

Dr. Sophocles Voineskos is a graduate of the Plastic Surgery Residency Training Program at McMaster University. He also completed the Clinician Investigator Program, obtaining a Master's Degree in Health Research Methodology (2013).
Following the completion of his residency, Dr. Voineskos was awarded the GAM Canada Microsurgery Scholarship to pursue a year-long Microvascular and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City (2016-2017). There he gained expertise in Breast Reconstruction, Head and Neck Cancer Reconstruction, and Reconstruction after Skin Cancer Excision. He was recruited to join the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at McMaster University in November 2017. At McMaster University, Dr. Voineskos was the Director of the Surgeon Scientist Program for the Department of Surgery and an Associate Faculty Member in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence & Impact.
In 2022 Dr. Voineskos joined the Faculty at St. Joseph's Health Centre, Toronto. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto, and an Investigator at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute. Dr. Voineskos' research interests include patient education, quality improvement and using Patient-Reported Outcomes to improve patient care and patient satisfaction. He currently has over 50 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Voineskos won the PARO Resident Teaching Award at McMaster University, and is now the Junior Resident Education Lead for the Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Toni Zhong, is a graduate of the Plastic Surgery Residency Training Program at the University of Western Ontario and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2007. Following the completion of her residency, Dr. Zhong was awarded the Zeiss Canada Microsurgery Scholarship to pursue a year-long Microvascular and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She was recruited to join the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive at the University of Toronto in November 2008. in 2011, she obtained her Master of Health Sciences in Clinical Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Zhong is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto, and the inaugural Belinda Stronach Chair in Breast Cancer Reconstruction at University Health Network (UHN). She is the Fellowship Director for the Breast Reconstruction Fellowships Program for the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Toronto. She is also the Clinical and Research Director for the Breast Reconstruction Program at UHN and Mount Sinai Hospital, leading centres for advanced techniques in breast reconstruction in North America.
To complement her clinical expertise in the field of breast reconstructive surgery, her research aims to improve the access of women to optimized techniques of post-mastectomy reconstruction through clinical trials and health services research. In 2012, she was awarded the prestigious 2012 Career Development Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncologists. She holds a five-year Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR) grant and leads a national team to examine barriers to breast reconstruction surgery across Canada. She was also awarded the highly competitive CIHR New Investigator Award in 2015. Recently, she was appointed as the Provincial Lead in the development of clinical guidelines to set new provincial standards for breast cancer reconstruction in Ontario. She currently has over 80 peer-reviewed publications in high impact oncology and surgical journals, holds 5 active national level research grants, and numerous Canadian and American Plastic Surgery Foundation Funds.
Dr. Zhong is also active in humanitarian activities. She is one of the founding members of Reconstructing Women International, a non-profit international humanitarian organization and annually leads international surgical teams overseas. She is a co-founder the UHN Helps Fund, a humanitarian fund to support patients from developing countries to receive their life-saving or life-enhancing surgeries at UHN. To recognize her volunteerism, she was awarded the Dean’s Alumni Award in Community Service from University Of Western Ontario in 2018. For her outstanding research work to improve access to breast reconstruction across Canada she was awarded the Dr. Robert Zhong, Department of Surgery, Research Award, Western University, 2019.
